My first visit to Japan was to Kyoto. There I was daily escorted round great numbers of shrines and temples. At first everything was new and exciting. But gradually I began to feel that I had seen enough shrines and temples to last me the rest of my life.
This feeling was mainly due to the fact that I did not know the history connected to each place.

Since settling in Kumamoto I have been able to take time to study more about each place of interest.
I was recommended to visit this very small, almost insignificant, shrine by a friend. He was smiling in a strange way when I told him I would go there the next day.

Having your new car exorcised at a Shinto shrine is not uncommon in Japan. It is not so usual to see a scooter being exorcised.

I really had just packed all my equipment and was about to leave the area when this ceremony began.

As I was shooting the scene a twisted thought came into my head..............
